Lenovo 15.6 Touchscreen Ideapad 3 Chromebook Review

This article assesses the strengths and potential downsides of Lenovo’s IdeaPad 3 with an in-depth analysis of every spec. Everything from the external body to internal memory cards and chips is present here to help the readers make an informed decision. So here is the Lenovo IdeaPad 3 Chromebook Review.

Build and looks

Lenovo IdeaPad 3 has no fancy hinges that transform it into an Ipad or detachable keyboards; rather, it has a simple build with a more office-appropriate vibe. It has a basic notebook design suitable for users who prefer serious work rather than looks.

It comes in the color Abyss Blue with a plastic structure. You also have the option of Platinum Grey color, and you can choose according to your taste. It also has a silver plate on the side with Lenovo written on it. And there’s a similar plate on the inside right side of the Laptop. Alongside this are stickers to let you know that the Intel Processor is embedded inside. Plus, there’s a  QR code that immediately takes you to Lenovo’s eSupport page.

It is, on the whole, a compact device that is lightweight and can be carried along pretty easily. It can be simply packed in a backpack and taken anywhere to allow work for people mostly on the go.

Keyboard and Trackpad

The beautiful silver keyboard gives a nice aesthetic against the abyss blue colour of the Laptop. No reviewer has complained about the keyboard, as it is quite comfortable for long-term usage. Typing is strain-free because each key is light enough, which is especially a benefit for those working from home or doing typing jobs. However, it does not have any kind of backlighting that can concern some users.

The Track-Pad can be a little small for some users, but generally, it is enough, solid and does its job pretty effectively. Its edge-to-edge movement, along with multi-touch gestures, are all effective and perfectly executed.

Screen

The LCD of Lenovo IdeaPad 3 is a TN version, which is quite the case with laptops of this kind. Overall, the screen works pretty decently, as everything is viewable in full-screen mode. However, the color department does not work satisfactorily; resolutions are not vivid and crisp but rather faded.

Speakers and Ports

Lenovo IdeaPad 3 has 2 USB Type-C ports; one is distinguished for charging. Plus, it also has two other USB ports that are the standard ones. Alongside these, it also possesses a security lock, a headphone port, and a microSD card reader. The microSD card can quickly transfer files or photos from other devices like phones to the Laptop.

With adequate sound quality, Lenovo IdeaPad 3 has 2-Watt speakers under the body of the Laptop, and the volume produced is loud enough for a decent-sized room to listen. Some users might be concerned with the lack of bass; however, it’s pretty good for normal everyday usage like Netflix or youtube.

Webcam

These often ignored parts of the laptops are vital due to the surge in online working and Zoom calls. It needs to be fully taken care of for a device to be good; however, in Lenovo’s IdeaPad, this immensely important aspect was ignored. It has a 720p HD camera with poor-quality output. The maximum output it can produce is under sunlight or in well-lit houses, but even that is merely ok. On the other hand, in houses with considerably less lighting, the footage produced is blurred and grainy.

 Processor, Memory and Storage

The processor used in this device is the Intel Celeron, which is an enhanced version of the ones used in its predecessors. It allows for routine tasks to be done with ease, like web surfing or documentation or online streaming. However, this device is surely not for heavy use like intense gaming or professional video editing, as its processor is unsuited to support these tasks.

The 4 Gb RAM helps to get the basic tasks done with no fuss, even with multiple tabs open in the background. However, it can be argued that 4GB is less than other competitor models, which greatly compromises Laptop’s working potential. Still, it’s a great device for normal light tasks that gets the work done perfectly.

The 64 GB of eMMC storage is a plus point, as this ample storage keeps all your files and photos saved. Also, it can always be supported by the SD card slot available to increase the storage space available.

Connectivity

In terms of WiFi, this Laptop misses on the contemporary connection choices as it is limited to WiFI 5, and the users are going to miss out on the more recent updates like the WiFi 6. This is hardly an issue for many users, specifically considering the type of work done on it.

Bluetooth 4.2 allows for connections that are consistent and reliable; however, it is a concern for many as people have now switched to wireless connections more. Despite this economical price, Bluetooth 5 would have been preferable to most users.

Battery Life

What’s the point of having a laptop and not a huge old desktop other than eliminating the need to always have a power point around? The Lenovo IdeaPad can pretty comfortably fulfill this need as it has a long battery life that lasts up to nine and a half hours in standard settings. The standard settings used in the trial were youtube video streaming in HD with volume at 50% and display at 60%.

ChromeOS

ChromeOS is Google’s operating system that is preferred for its simplicity of use and uncomplicated nature. It is used in schools and offices mainly due to the wide variety of apps and other advantages that come along. Google Docs can also operate offline, and you can easily run Android apps on your Laptop.

Pros

  • Efficient design
  • Smart Keyboard
  • Sufficient Battery life
  • Comparatively Cost-effective

Cons

  • Mediocre screen presentation
  • Appropriate only for less-demanding tasks

Conclusion

The IdeaPad 3 is a pretty decent find, considering its humble cost when compared to similar models of competitors. Lenovo Ideapad 3 Chromebook specs are decent enough to easily tackle routine tasks and are appropriate for light day-to-day work. Ideapad 3 has a simple design that can get your work done in no time, be it web browsing or document work or social media surfing.
