Lenovo IdeaPad 31 Review

Lenovo IdeaPad 3i is a budget model that is economical and easy on the pocket. It is sold at retail as it is a consumer model. With a full HD 15.6 inch screen, it also has an Intel core i5 processor that allows it to easily deal with daily routine tasks. Like similar competitors’ models, IdeaPad 3i does not have very powerful or striking features, but compared to other consumer models, it is impressive. Lenovo Ideapad  3i can easily manage day-to-day tasks and is appropriate for online schooling or working from home.

Build and Specs in Detail

Lenovo IdeaPad 3i is like a slab made of ABS plastic, available in Arctic Grey colour. Its overall body is fairly strong and made of good quality material, eliminating the risks of speedy wear and tear.
It is equipped with Windows 11 Pro, which is a plus here because other consumer laptops have Windows 11 Home installed. Its 8GB RAM and 512 GB SSD storage makes it suited to every employer’s needs, as many tasks can be done simultaneously with many tabs open. IdeaPad 3i is able to keep a handsome amount of files, documents or photos safe due to its large storage space. It supports the WiFi6 connection along with a good Bluetooth connectivity option that allows IdeaPad to have wireless links for instance, to quickly transfer data from this laptop to any external device.
Another cool feature that IdeaPad 3i offers is fingerprint recognition; its power button can also become a fingerprint reader and retire you from the worries of having to remember and type passwords again and again. That being said, its webcam does not have face recognizing technology and cannot allow face-recognition security lock. You can keep yourself safe from webcam spying with the help of the sliding shutter over it.
Talking about the webcam, it has an overall low focus and just 720p resolution. However, it is able to capture vivid and well-illuminated pictures comparatively.
Lenovo IdeaPad 3i offers 2 USB ports on its left side, one of them being a Type-A and the other one being a Type-C. It also has an HDMI slot, an audio jack and a charging port. It has a USB port and an SD card slot on the right side.
Lenovo’s IdeaPad 3i opens up when the lid is opened rather than having to wait for the user to press the power key. This feature resembles that of many expensive and high-end laptops but is rarely present in such economical consumer ones.
The speakers in IdeaPad 3i are bottom-mounted and seriously lack Bass. The sound produced is considerably muffled and hollow even at the highest volume as if coming from a far-off place.
This can prove to be a serious drawback for our Netflix lovers, as it totally kills the charm if the sound doesn’t seem to come from the character’s mouth.
Moving on to the keyboard, it is poorly lit, with the escape and delete keys being too small. It provides usual numerical keys along with the functions and control keys above them. And instead of the traditional inverted T arrangement, the cursor arrow keys are positioned in an awkward row. Alongside this, there are no separate keys for Home, End, Page Up and Page down, so you must either combine the cursor arrows with the Fn key or utilize the ones located on the number pad when the Num lock is deactivated. The keyboard offers a shallow yet responsive typing experience, as it strikes a perfect balance between being unobtrusive in sound and providing satisfactory feedback. The touchpad doesn’t have a button and requires a rather stiff click, yet it allows pretty smooth gliding.
Lenovo itself specifies the 1080p display on the IdeaPad 3i at 300 nits of brightness. However, reality looks a little different. When viewing the screen in actuality, it doesn’t seem to be that bright. Yet it is good enough to work comfortably and not too dark to become a hindrance.
When talking about the screen, the colors are saturated enough and are fairly rich. However, they appear to be slightly washed out. It is the white background that helps with the dullness as it maintains a pleasing level of brightness. The screen’s tilt function contributes to this effect, allowing you to adjust it to your preferred angle. Furthermore, fine details remain sharp without any pixelation around the edges of the letters, and the contrast, as well as the viewing angles, are quite satisfactory.
Trials and Tests
Various tests and trials were conducted on the IdeaPad 3, and the good news is that there were no surprises. UL’s PC mark 10 was used as a benchmark during productivity tests, and our Lenovo IdeaPad 3i comfortably cleared the 4000-mark, which signifies the smooth running of basic office apps like Microsoft Office or google workspace.
IdeaPad 3i performed quite well in the CPU tests as well. It was able to complete the Photoshop exercise before the other two competitors. However, it still can not be mistaken for a laptop ideal for digital content creation.
When undergoing the graphics tests, the IdeaPad 3 wasn’t the worst. Yet it can be concluded that it should be restricted to solitaire or light gaming and video streaming rather than actual resource-intensive gaming.
Its battery life was also tested by playing a 720p video with 100% sound and brightness at 50%. Prior to the test, its battery was completely charged, and the WiFi plus the keyboard lighting was turned off. The results showed a good 11 hours of running with no external power source, which is quite an accomplishment in this price range.

Pros

  • Impressive performance
  • Long battery life
  • User-friendly and convenient keyboard
  • Wide variety of ports

Cons

  • The webcam picture quality is not at all impressive
  • The audio quality should have been better
  • The screen appears less bright than its actual intensity

Conclusion

So this was our Lenovo IdeaPad 3i review and it can be well concluded that this laptop is a decent choice if you are searching for an in-budget, full-sized laptop. It has no serious issues and is a great find for its price. Users are not a fan of its screen and keyboard; however, it’s still a lot better overall than many of the budget finds. And you can definitely find better than Lenovo IdeaPad 3i specs; however, those will be a lot more expensive than this. Hence, there’s not a lot to complain about at this price.
